Country Summary: One Month in China (and a few days in Hong Kong)

China 6th August – 4th September 2017 Over the course of one month in China we went from huge bustling cities like Beijing down to small towns in the countryside where we cycled through rice paddies, the difference was like night and day. The language and culture was fascinating and the food was an absolute dream having come from Mongolia, the land of mutton. We saw many incredible things but the swarms of domestic tourists that descend over the country during…

Emi climbs Mount Emei

Emi climbs Mount Emei

Fresh from climbing Mount Emei just a couple of days ago I wanted to share my ups and downs from the two day hike. I am not just talking physically, which there were a lot, but also mentally. When Rich first told me about the hike up Mount Emei, a mountain in the Sichuan province of China, I was pretty much sold from the off. The blogs we read not only spoke of a challenging but beautiful hike but…

Country Summary: One Month in Mongolia

Country Summary: One Month in Mongolia

Mongolia 10th July – 6th August 2017 Mongolia is an incredible country which I awmpressively managed to exceeded our already high expectations and provided some unforgettable experiences. The local people were exceptionally friendly, their nomadic culture was unique and unlike anything we have seen before and the steppe was staggeringly beautiful. Alongside this came difficult challenges. Transportation outside the capital was long, the roads were in a bad condition and when no public transport existed you had to rely on…

Enjoying Mongolia’s National Festival Naadam

Enjoying Mongolia’s National Festival Naadam

On our first day in Mongolia we threw ourselves straight into the countries national festival ‘Naadam’. When we planned the trip this was a key event we really didn’t want to miss as everyone recommends that this is the best time to visit. With this in mind we planned our leaving date so that we would arrive in Mongolia just in time. I am so pleased we made this decision as the festival encompasses the heart of Mongolia culture and…

Country Summary: One Month in Russia

Country Summary: One Month in Russia

12th June – 10th July 2017 We have recently completed our month in Russia, the first country in our year of travel. During our time in Russia we have physically travelled an extremely long distance, starting in St.Petersburg and ending in Ulan Ude. The distance travelled has been amazing and is incomparable to any distance you can travel in England. We are now about 7000km from home and have crossed from Europe into Asia. During this first month we have seen stunning palaces…

7,621km from Moscow to Beijing by Train

7,621km from Moscow to Beijing by Train

So it is only two weeks until Rich and I depart on our big trip. Before we leave I wanted to tell you all about the first part on the Trans-Mongolian Railway. You have probably heard of the Trans-Siberian Railway. However a lot of people do not know that there are actually three routes; the Trans-Siberian, the Trans-Mongolian and the Trans-Manchurian. We decided to do the Trans-Mongolian route. This traditionally starts in Moscow. You then travel east across Russia to Ulan…

Photo Essay: 2,000 miles across India in a Rickshaw

In December 2014, two friends and I set off for India to take part in an adventure like no other, The Rickshaw Run, the objective? To travel across India in a rickshaw, bottom to top! Here are some photos that hopefully capture the spirit and atmosphere of the mayhem that ensued. If you haven’t had enough feel free to watch our full video of the trip:

The Rickshaw Run – India here we come!

The Rickshaw Run – India here we come!

It is official, myself and two good friends (Jack and Mike) have signed up to take part in an event called The Rickshaw Run. For those that have never heard of the event before it basically involves driving ~2,000 miles across India in what can only be described as a glorified lawnmower. The infamous auto-rickshaw, 7 horsepower of automotive mayhem. Oh yeah, did I mention we have to do this all in 2 weeks?! Will we breakdown? Probably Will we get lost?…
